Is Summer Over?

Today: Sunny with a warm breeze. High temp of 80 and low temp of 64.

Going into the last unofficial weekend of summer...
Saturday: Sun & Clouds, 20% Chance, 84/64
Sunday: Sun & Clouds, 30% Chance, 85/70
Monday: Cloudy, 60% Chance, 80/70

Eye On The Tropics:
Tropical Storm Katia is out in the Atlantic right now, not forecasted to impact us at all (...yet). But I will continue to track it. Every forecast run she moves westward towards land, uh oh. If she follows a westward then northerly track, will see some effects right in time for next weekend/early next week.

Is Summer Over Yet?:
So Newark's climatological data doesn't have fun records kept for us...I'll sum up Central Park's "Summer" Weather. Here is a brief summary--- June, July, August recap...
Temperatures
   June: Actual   80.2/64.4
Normal 79/63.......So temperatures were pretty much typical for the month of June
3 days were above 90 degrees
   July: Actual   88.9/71.6
            Normal 84/69.......So a warmer month
14 days were above 90 degrees.
                Heat wave #1: July 16, 17, 18, 19 (90, 91, 95, 94)
                Heat wave #2: July 21, 22, 23, 24 (97,104*,100*, 91)  * = record
                Hear wave #3: July-August 30, 31, 1, 2 (91, 91, 94, 90)
   August: Actual   82.9/67.6
Normal 82./68......So right on for temps
3 Days were above 90 degrees.
Precipitation
   June: 3.25" ---below normal/normal
   July: 3.03" ---below normal/normal
August: 18.95" ---ABOVE normal (1/2 days in the month had rain)
      Record wettest Summer Ever: 25.23"
Record wettest August Ever & All time wettest Month Ever: 18.95"
      August 14th: 5.81"* & August 28th: 3.99"*   * = record

I know its a lot of words & numbers, but all you have to know is June was your average June, July was hot and August was wet.
