"Calm B4 The Storm"

Today: We're in the clear...so time to prepare. Sun and clouds high of 86.
Tonight: Heavy rain still on the approach...we remain dry.
Waking Up: CLOUDY, showers will start first
Saturday (Tomorrow) Afternoon: Rain bands (heavier Hurricane type rains/winds) begin to move in
Saturday (Tomorrow) Evening: Heavy rains and winds start to pick up
Overnight...Saturday into Sunday: HEAVY RAIN AND WINDS (Winds up to 74 mph)
Sunday Waking Up: HEAVY RAIN AND WINDS
Sunday Afternoon: HEAVY RAIN AND WINDS
Sunday Evening: Rain tapering, possible appearance of the sun just before sunset?!?
...So the max amount of rain is 8 inches, if we get under a large "rain band" and wind up to 74 mph. Flooding is also a concern...but coastal areas are looking at some major flooding!
Monday: Donzo...under mostly sunny skies and 82 degrees.

The catch for coast areas: Storm surge: Here's the explanation: low pressure over water (aka hurricane) allows the water to rise since nothing (not high pressure) is forcing it down. Okay, so we now know the sea level will rise as a result...NEXT complication is the hurricane force winds (at least 74 mph winds), that's what pushing the high sea level onto the shores.  AND THEN tides are going to be at its peek! We have a new moon...now the sun and moon on the same side allows a greater pull to bring the waters high on shore. AND of course waves are going to be incredibly high. SO with that said, MAJOR COASTAL FLOODING is an issue..evacuations are a good idea.

This storm is "epic" b/c 65 million people will be effected!

Okay...on a "lighter" note...all this beach and ocean talk has me hungry! I will def be having a Surf & Turf dinner on Tuesday to celebrate making it through...why not Monday? well because that will be the heaviest recap day! Steak and lobster (or shrimp) it is :) :) :)

But wait!

Today: Sun and clouds to start, but the storms will be here in the afternoon, might be severe. High temp of 86 and low temp of 68.
Friday: This will be our calm day...finally, but it all changes Saturday when Irene impacts the area. So we'll see the sun today, temperatures still warm, but turning muggy and the winds will be blowing.
This weekend: Watching Irene...

Hurricane Irene:
So for now, the track actually trended inward (as in more towards the city) We are looking at a direct hit on Long Island, either way...the location could be as far west as the city or as far east as Montauk.  It does show signs of weakening as it hits us, so the least we can get will be a Tropical Storm...winds from 40-60 mph (I'll narrow that speed down as it gets closer) Also the latest rain models are starting the steady rain in the afternoon on Saturday, heaviest going into Sunday/Sunday afternoon and ending by 8 pm Sunday night...totals are around 5-7 inches at most...and by Monday all we have let will be the winds.

But wait, today we have a front passing through, which means some stormy weather to end the day.  Mostly sunny start, then clouds start to move in around 3pm and storms follow. We have this chance anytime from 3pm till about midnight. Here's the breakdown...2% tornado, 15% hail, and 15% wind.  This may just break us in to brace for the hurricane!

Good news is...that after the hurricane barrels through the next 7 days look rain free

...also I'm on the hunt to find the best looks to sit out a hurricane and of course the cutest outfit to go out in the hurricane :)

Preparing For A Hurricane:
FOOD:
Okay here are the essentials...milk, eggs and bread...so what else can you make with that...ummmmm FRENCH TOAST!
Now in the case that we lose power, I recommend you go out and buy some non perishable foods...my fav are chips & salsa (FOR SURE), package tuna (or salmon), dried fruit, and I love creating new trial mixes.  My theory is that during stormy weather, chiefs stay home raiding their pantry and mixing cereals, nuts, dried fruits, oats, pretzels, chips, and chocolates) FUN FUN FUN!!!
ETC:
Make sure you have a flashlight with charged batteries, candles are good (especially scented...not a bad idea), duhh keep your TV tuned to the news (preferably CBS 2 or News 12....not a bias request at all), having your camera, cell phone, lap top fully charged isn't a bad idea either just in case you need to take pics/videos/calls.
CLOTHES:
I'm thinking its going to be a sweats kinda day! Finally, and not complaining either!

Earthquake, Storms, and Hurricanes...Oh MY!

Today: Another beautiful day! Sunny and warm all day long. A great looking day and night. High temp of 81 and low temp of 70.
Tomorrow: Starts of mostly sunny with approaching storms, here by afternoon. High temp of 86 and low temp of 70.

What a crazy last couple of days...and more on its way! Sunday had storms, Monday (thankfully) was calm...just some recapping, Tuesday was smooth sailing until 1:51 when an earthquake occured, Today is looking good...with approaching storms on Thursday, the calm before the storm on Friday and a hurricane by Saturday. Earthquake, storms and hurricanes...Oh MY!

Hurricane Irene:
Latest model showing it rides up the east coast, decreasing in strength, but will hit Long Island as Cat 1, around the Hamptons. We will get some effects still...this will be winds up to 50 mph with heavy rains.  This all starts Saturday, all day Sunday into Monday.

Wonderful Weather

Today: Pleasant feel and sunny! Temps in the upper 70s to lower 80s
Tomorrow: Another day of this wonderful weather...
Thursday: Sun and clouds, muggy and chance of storms in the afternoon

...I think after Sundays storms (that almost had me work a 24 hour day) we deserve this "fall-like" feel??? I'm def ready for the fall, aren't you?...bring on the fall drinks as well as the fashion!

Hurricane Irene:
Okay, here's what its trending...looks like Saturday into Sunday we will see the effects, no matter what.  Now if the hurricane tracks inland, we get heavy rain and if the hurricane tracks up along the coast, we get the gusty winds. We'll have a better idea for our area by at least Friday.

The last time a hurricane/tropical storm can through our area was Hurricane Floyd in 1999.  Actually New Jersey along with 9 other states, were declared major disaster areas from this storm. Rainfall was a major problem from this particular hurricane...now our problem, this time around, could very well be the rainfall...especially since the ground is so saturated already (on target to be the wettest August EVER!)

The last time NYC was directly hit by a hurricane was in 1821. This storm produced 13 foot storm surges for the Hudson.  According to the Weather Channel, NYC is the second most vulnerable city to get hit and to make matters worse, we are due for a direct hit due to the lack of activity over the past few decades.

Still A Chance

Today: Mostly cloudy, showers with quick downpours and possible t-storm. High temp of 87 and low temp of 68.
...not looking like a good beach day (I know, I was hoping for one too...guess I'll go to shopping instead #ohwell)

Saturday: Still looking at a mix of sun & clouds, and that rain chance...just showers and some quick heavy rains.
Sunday: This day looks to have more clouds but still a rain chance.
Temps in the mid-upper 80s both days and that rain chance running at about a 30% both days as well.

Rain Chances

Today: Partly sunny, showers (possible t-storm) in afternoon, high temp of 87 and low temp of 69.
TomorrowMostly cloudy and showers/t-storms, high temp of 86 and low temp of 68.

And just a quick look at your weekend...Both days have a slight rain chance, but still very warm and not a wash out...just some spot showers and storms. So weekend plans are a go ahead, just keep watching the radar.  Looks like yesterday was our only dry day this week...the rain chances continue!

Today's Monkey Business:
So I'm on day 4 of the Sacred Heart Diet...more like a detox! But Its only bananas today...but its actually not that bad..
Breakfast: banana smoothie w/ skim milk, instant coffee and sugar free vanilla syrup (NOT BAD!)
Lunch: just plain bananas
Dinner: banana ice cream (aka frozen bananas blended up)

Okay...here's my banana ice cream!!!!
It actually was very good! Of course I only had banana and 1/2 cup of skim milk (I should have only used about 1/4 cup) AND to make it even better people say to add peanut butter --- I say add a little honey and add in some mimi chocolate chips. Now we're talkin'!!!

This storm has dumped close to 7 inches over Newark Airport...officially as of 10 pm last night 6.56 inches fell. So today expect a "half and half" type day...the morning/early afternoon will be cloudy/drizzley and by late afternoon/evening the sun will reappear and we dry out.

So in honor of this "half and half" day I will add that to my coffee :)

Monday, August 15, 2011

Today: Perfect day-night! Mostly sunny, dry and warm in the mid 80s!
Tomorrow: Perfect day-night! Mostly sunny, dry and warm in the mid80s!
Both days are going to be identical..twinsie pops!

Today's Weather Fun Fact:
Well the "dog days of summer" actually refers to the weeks between July 3rd and August 11th. So looks like today is the last day we'll be sweating like dogs! (maybe!?) But here's another fact..."dog" not because we get extremely hot as dogs would, but "dog" because of the "Dog Star" aka "Sirius" is very close to the sun and the Romans thought that star help contribute to the hot weather.

Today's News Flash:
I got over my newsroom fear and made a cup of coffee...and they had lactose free milk. Double plus!

Start The Fire

Today: Mostly sunny with just a few clouds. There is a slight shower chance in the afternoon...but a cool, dry night of 66 degrees.  So start the fire and break out the sweatshirts...its time to make s'mores!!! :)

Tomorrow & Friday: Both days will feature mostly sunny skies, no humidity, and mild temps.

**Hint: Sunday is looking like a damp/gray day, so if you are planning your weekend already (like me) DON'T due outdoories activities on Sunday. But Saturday looks great, all is a go!

Today's Food Holiday:
Its National S'mores Day!  You might think of the typical 2 graham crackers + chocolate + toasted marshmallow...but these desserts take a fun twist on such a classic recipe :) If these don't make you want s'mores..idk what does!

Dinner And A Movie?!

Today: Sun and clouds, rain approaching by afternoon..around 2. Storms could be strong or severe.
But you can still look good even when it rains...just don't go for an outdoors outlet, my advice hit the mall or the movies (dinner and a movie date?!..yes please!)

Today's Celeb Look:
Well eveyone knows Kristin is my style icon...so heres a look I would try to pull off today..the only thing I would add is a sweater to throw in your bag...that rain cooled air can put a mild chill in the air.
